Kids Read Comics Extravaganza March 12!

Mark your calendars, comics enthusiasts in the Southeast Michigan area! On Saturday, March 12 from 10 am to 8 pm we will be holding a free event at the Ann Arbor Art Center!

The KRC Extravaganza will be a one-day celebration of all-ages comics and the cartoonists who make them. The event will be open to the public and offer free activities where you’ll be able to interact with cartoonists as they work, or even participate in hands-on workshops where you can make comics of your very own!

It’s going to be a full day of getting up to your elbows in comics making. Here are some of the events planned:

Quick Draw!
Imagine an episode of “Whose Line Is it Anyway?” starring a quartet of quick-thinking cartoonists, and you’ll begin to get the picture of Quick Draw. It’s improvisational cartooning with plenty of audience participation.

Storytelling Workshops
Learn how a cartoonist uses drawings, panel size, and crazy sound effects to immerse their readers in the story! You will be led in an interactive discussion on some of the fundamental comics storytelling principles, after which you’ll be invited to create a short comics story of your own!

Free Sketches for Kids!
Get a sketch of your favorite character or your own creation, drawn by local participating cartoonists.

Free Comics for Kids!
Throughout the day we will be giving away free comic books for kids and teens.

If you’re an artist in the SE Michigan area (that includes Northern Ohio!) and you’d like to help out at this event or participate in some of the comics events and workshops, contact us! We’d love to have you!
