Spotlight in Mark Mekkes
Posted By Shawn Robare on October 19, 2010
With a Theater degree, a Princeton internship and 12 years of professional theater experience, Mark Mekkes finally achieved his dream of going to art school and getting a degree in Illustration. With his new degree in hand, Mark set out to find a fresh, new job as an artist only to end up working back in theater for Disney Entertainment in Orlando. In order to keep his new art training active, he came up with (what he thought at the time) was the incredibly original idea of creating comic content for the internet. He was early enough to think he was a webcomic pioneer, but unfortunately he wasn’t early enough to actually be a pioneer. Zortic entered the world of webcomics in 2000 and has been going strong ever since.
Around the same time he helped create the Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards helping raise awareness of some of the best in webcomics. In 2004, Mark teamed up with artist Tiffany Ross to create Abby’s Agency, office humor about a spy agency. In 2008, Mark created the strip The Saucer Seekers, a comic about the trials and tribulations of UFO hunting.
All of Mark’s work can be found at the central location of Entire Prize Enterprises.
